Lenny Wilkens

About Project

Seattle basketball legend Lenny Wilkens was honored with a 7ft bronze statue outside of Climate Pledge Arena on June 28, 2025 just a short walk away from Lenny Wilkens Way. The statue was created by artist Lou Cella who also sculpted Seattle Mariners icons Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez at T-Mobile Park.

Wilkens’ career as a player, coach, general manager, and ownership executive with the Seattle SuperSonics spans over four decades during which he achieved numerous milestones: became a three-time All-Star point guard; Seattle’s first superstar; the second Black coach in NBA history; the first coach to bring a major professional sports championship to Seattle; and the first player inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as a player, coach, and Olympian (1992 Dream Team).
