Mother Cabrini at Papal Basilica – Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls

A magnificent bronze statue of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini was unveiled, November 13, 2024, at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. Sculpted by renowned artists Jessica LoPresti and Lou Cella of Rotblatt Amrany Studio, this tribute honors the first Italian-American saint and her enduring legacy of compassion for immigrants.

Commissioned by Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago and Dr. Carol Christiansen, the sculpture was presented as a gift to Pope Francis on the Feast Day of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini. The statue beautifully captures Mother Cabrini, the Patron Saint of Immigrants, with her arms outstretched in a gesture of welcome and love—a powerful symbol of her lifelong mission to serve and uplift immigrants. Born in Italy and later becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen, Cabrini devoted her life to helping those in need, embodying compassion and service across borders.

The original sculpture was unveiled in 2022 at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, where it was met with deep admiration. The second casting, now presented in Rome, serves as a lasting tribute to Cabrini’s remarkable legacy. The artists, along with representatives from Holy Name Cathedral, were present for this momentous dedication, marking a milestone in the celebration of faith, artistry, and unity.
