The Fusion

About Project

This is a 40-foot monument created for the Centennial Celebration of Gary, Indiana. The Fusion represents the multitude of ethnic groups that came together to build Gary, analogous to the fusion of the steel industry in the 20th century. The monument is a combination of an original 75,000 lb. steel ladle made by US Steel, two 9-foot tall white bronze steel workers, 50 pieces of cast glass flames, and several granite butterflies representing the cultures from around the world. This blends into bronze dancers and abstract figures, dancers from around the world, and a message of family values to the future. Chicago artist Omri Amrany worked in collaboration with US Steel in Gary IN, and the city of Gary, IN.
