In honor of the 10th anniversary of the 2016 World Series championship, the Cubs unveiled a new addition to Wrigley Field on July 18th: Champions Gate.
The new arch is on the western entrance to Gallagher Way off Clark Street. It features a crowning medallion with the Cubs workmark at the center with bronze ivy cascading down the sides. Mounted to the arch below, bronze lettering highlights the Cubs 1907, 1908, and 2016 World Series championships.
At the base and sides of the gate, brick pillars embedded with bronze plaques engraved with the players and manager’s names from each World Series championship commemorate their achievements.
Champions Gate is designed to be viewed from different angles, one looking in from Clark Street and another from inside Gallagher Way looking out. At night, the arch will light up and illuminate the plaza around it.
According to the Cubs, space was left on the gate to leave room for future victories and accomplishments for the team. The monument serves as a source of both inspiration and pride for the team’s fans from all generations.
The Cubs commissioned Rotblatt Amrany Studio to sculpt the bronze ivory around the gate. Our studio also created statues of Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, Ryne Sandberg, Ron Santo, Billy Williams, and Harry Caray at Wrigley Field’s statue row.
The completed arch was unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The ceremony was a park of a weekend-long celebration that marked 10 years since the 2016 title.
Designed to withstand rain, shine, and (lots of) snow, Champions Gate is a permanent addition to Wrigley Field for visitors to view, photograph, and appreciate. It cemented the Cubs’ victories as history of Wrigley Field’s landscape next to statue row. With a handful of players and championships to honor, the gate will no doubt serve as a pinnacle of pride for Chicago Cubs fans.
