On April 26, 2026, the LA Galaxy community gathered at Legends Plaza to celebrate a man who remains the heart and soul of the club. The unveiling of the Cobi Jones sculpture served as a momentous occasion for fans and family to honor a true pioneer of American soccer. This bronze monument stands as a permanent tribute to the USMNT leader in caps and a multi-time MLS Cup champion who helped build the sport from the ground up. By placing this work alongside existing statues of David Beckham and Landon Donovan, the Galaxy has solidified a trinity of legends that define the history of the game in Southern California.

Our team at the studio approached this project with a deep understanding of its cultural weight. Cobi Jones was not just a player; he was a trailblazer for the African-American community and a symbol of what is possible through relentless effort. To capture this spirit, our artists engaged in an intensive research phase that went beyond simple photographs. We studied his explosive mechanics and interviewed Cobi alongside those close to him to ensure the clay form resonated with the emotional depth of his career. This forensic level of detail is what allows a piece of metal to transform into a lifelike presence that speaks to future generations.

The Artistry of a Southern California Legend

The design process was a collaborative journey that began in early 2025. Our studio utilized a full-scale sculpting approach to ensure the anatomy of the figure remained perfect at a larger-than-life scale. Cobi himself visited the studio in June 2025 to witness the progress and provide input on the nuances of the pose. This interaction is a vital part of our mission, as it ensures the subject sees their own legacy reflected accurately in the material. The resulting Cobi Jones sculpture captures a dynamic moment of action, reflecting the energy he brought to every match at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The transition from clay to bronze utilized the meticulous lost wax casting process. This age-old technique is what grants the monument its permanence, allowing it to withstand the environment while developing a natural patina over time. Between November 2025 and February 2026, our master artisans worked at nearly 2,000 degrees to cast the individual sections of the figure. This stage of production requires absolute precision, as every detail from the clay is permanently captured in the bronze. The finished work is a testament to the technical mastery that our team brings to every civic and sports landmark.

A Lasting Landmark in Legends Plaza

Placement and the public experience are essential to the success of any monument. The Cobi Jones sculpture is now a focal point of Legends Plaza, creating an interactive landmark that invites fans to engage with the history of the club. As the United States prepares to host the 2026 World Cup, this statue stands as a reminder of the pioneers who paved the way for the current boom in soccer popularity. It is more than an object; it is a place where stories are shared and the community’s history is validated in a form that will outlive us all.

• Anchoring Public Spaces: The sculpture provides a visual and emotional gravity to the stadium entrance.

• Celebrating Cultural Icons: It honors Cobi’s role as a mentor for underserved communities and aspiring athletes.

• Integrating Architecture: The bronze finish and stone base were designed to blend seamlessly with the aesthetic of Dignity Health Sports Park.

Our team is profoundly honored to have partnered with the LA Galaxy and AEG to bring this vision to life. We believe that high-quality art requires an immense investment of time and data because a legacy should never feel hollow. This project continues our mission to provide physical proof of the impact of positive changemakers and inspire human progress through the enduring medium of bronze.
