Defenders of Peace, a 14′ stainless steel work sculpted by artist Gary Tillery, depicts all five branches of the armed services recognized symbolized by military stars soaring up to toward a dove – their common goal – Peace. The site also includes a bronze larger-than-life-size army figure contemplating the five plaques embedded in the brickwork, which also identify the U. S. military branches. The work is a daily reminder to College of Lake County students and staff that many citizens have sacrificed to make their freedom possible.
